A new school year begins and students, teachers, administrators, and staff are filled with anticipation and with trepidation

Anticipation for learning and growth, for friendships that will be developed, and for lives that will be changed for the better through education.

Trepidation for continuing to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, for tough assignments, for days that don’t go away, for acceptance for who we are.

Some complain about eating in the school cafeteria while others rejoice that they will at least have one good meal in their day.

May all students approach each lesson with an open mind and a willing spirit ready to be challenged to learn new things and new approaches. Help them to not only learn more about the subjects which they study, but also about themselves and the gifts they have to offer the world.

Be present with each teacher as they live out their calling to educate, nurture, and empower students. Provide them with encouragement on the difficult days and a spirit of celebration on the fulfilling days. We give thanks for the ways in which our teachers have navigated the last 16 months and pray for wisdom and strength as we move forward together.

We lift our bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, and office staff to you. Remind them what an important role they play in our students’ lives. May they know how much their work is appreciated.

We give thanks for our school administrators and school board members. In the face of challenging times, continue to give them a spirit of wisdom as they lead and discern what is best for our communities.

We pray that our schools be a safe space for all. Empower all to work together to provide the best experience for all students, faculty, and staff.

God, make your presence and your love known in our schools this year.

AMEN
